Who else would like to learn how to play piano fast? The piano is a great instrument to play and one that many people have taken up as instrument of choice. Playing the piano fast involves many things.

So what does playing the piano fast involve you to do. Firstly it does not mean that you just go hit random keys on the piano as fast as you can. Bashing down on random keys just sounds bad. Playing the piano fast means that you are able to play the same piano piece at a faster tempo.

In typical cases when people play a piano piece faster than what it is supposed to be, the tempo is all over the place and the piano piece is all over the place. Being able to play fast is one thing, and able to play fast with speed and accuracy is another. Your fingers need to be coordinated and you will also need to have a excellent sense of tempo. So how do we play piano fast? Practise is the key. Lots of practise will enable you to solve the problem of how to play piano fast.

You will need to get yourself a piano metronome to help you get a sense of tempo. Practise with the metronome and adjust the tempo faster and faster. Change the speed faster in small increments and practise playing the scales first. The scales and chords are the basic building blocks that you need to get right first. Learning bad habits is not an option. You don’t want to sacrifice speed for accuracy and you must develop your muscles in your fingers so that they move faster.

All good things take time and we don’t just start playing fast piano from the get go. It takes lots of practise and persistence. The hardest fingers to train to move faster are your little finger and the finger next to it. These two fingers are used rarely in day to day life and they are the slowest of the five on each hand. You can try for yourself this simple exercise and demonstrate to yourself that the last two fingers are the slowest of the five.

Try this activity: Have you hands off the piano and tap down on a key with your little finger. Then tap down with the finger next to it on the key beside. Alternate between your two fingers and tap down following a slow tempo. Try increasing the tempo and notice how difficult it is to tap down fast keeping the tempo with these two fingers.

With lots of practise the last two fingers can be trained to be just as fast as your thumb and index and middle fingers. As with a lot of things, practise makes perfect. The last two fingers just need to be used more often so that they get used to moving. Similar to how people don’t move their toes enough, they find it hard to control every single toe.

Using the metronome is essential to learning how to play piano fast and keeping the tempo right. You don’t want to sacrifice tempo for accuracy. Remember that you need to train both hands and not just focus on one hand. Both hands need to be as fast as each other and every finger on each hand need to be just as fast as each other. Playing the piano is similar to learning how to touch type.

The key to learning how to play piano fast is to practise a lot and making each finger move really quickly. Training your muscle memory is important to achieving great speed. There are lots of online material that is widely available to those that want to learn more about how to play piano.

The Who are an okay group. I chose Who’s Next because it has two songs on it that I really fell in love with. Those two songs are “Baba O’Riley” and “Behind Blue Eyes.”
