Being more than 120 years old, Johor Old Temple is situated at Jalan Trus, Johor Bahru. Its neighbours are Kota Raya Shopping Centre and Puteri Pacific Hotel.
Previously it was backed by a small hill. Now the hill has been leveled and developed into a skyscraper – Wisma Ansar.
The Johor Old Temple is said to be built by a Johor Bahru tycoon, Tan Sook Ni. There is however, no single encryption on any tombstone or anything showing a proof on this issue.
There are two items in the temple which indicate its age. One of them is the signboard which bears the date of 1870 and the other a bronze bell encrypted 1875.
Johor Bahru is a migratory society. The first dialect group came here was Teochew. The influx was followed by other dialect groups. The 5 major dialect groups are Teochew, Hokkien, Hakka, Cantonese and Hainanese.
Ngee Heng Company lead the Johor Bahur Chinese society. Under its leadership, the different dialect groups built up friendship, cooperation and eliminated differences.
Ngee Heng Company took up the role of management of the Johor Old Temple. Even though the 5 deities are not the original deities of the dialect groups, they are co-worshipped by all of them and each deity was symbolically assigned to one dialect group.
The Johor Bahru Chinese shared one single cemetery. Together, the Chinese Society helps to build and supports one Chinese school namely Fong Yew School.
This formed the famous slogan among the Johor Bahru Chinese i.e. “One Temple, One Hill and One School”.
Chingay Procession
The Johor Old Temple Committee will organize procession on the 20th to 22nd day of the first month of every lunar calendar whereby all the deities of the Johor Old Temple will be transferred out of the temple and moved to a Resting Temple about 3 km away.
Early in the morning on the 20th of the lunar new year, the worshippers will gather in front of the main entrance of the temple holding joysticks waiting for the images of the deities to be transferred out of the temple. When the image of the deities were being transferred out, the worshippers clap their hands and offer their joysticks to the deities.
The images of the deities riding on sedan chairs will be swung left and right by the carriers after leaving the Johor Old Temple. The procession is accompanied by lion dance and dragon dance. Of course, Chinese drums will accompany the procession all the way to the Resting Temple. The dedicated worshippers carrying joysticks will walk in the procession.
The celebration reaches the climax on the second day i.e. the 21st day of the lunar new year, whereby the images of the deities will put into procession again in the evening. The procession starts from the Resting Temple, moving along Jalan Yahya Awal, Jalan Ayer Molek, seaside, Jalan Wong Ah Fook and all the way back to the Resting Temple. The distance is about 8 km. Near 300,000 people participate in the procession nowadays. It is indeed a great event in Johor Bahru.
A stage will be set up in front of the Johor Bahru City Square. Honorable invited guests will be seated here to watch the chingay procession. It is the focus of the procession where various performances like lion dances, dragon dances, stilt walking, drums, classic musics, kongfu, cultural dances, floats etc will be presented in front of the guests and audience at Jalan Wong Ah Fook.
On the 22nd of the lunar new year, all the deities will be transferred back to the old temple by having another procession in the morning.

Great stuff here.
My friend has a small business on car rentals and he really loves having it. Part of his business is also cleaning small parts of cars. He has become more thriving than ever with his business and it has really help him with a lot of financial problems. Car rentals are one of the best business trends offered that I find amusing so far. I can’t help thinking about cars being borrowed by people you barely are familiar with. Although it is a good business, it is rather not that reliable for me since I am a kind of person who his profit. My father used turn down the idea of renting a car from a car rental. He would say that it is to risky since it is not our personal car that we would be driving. Although we would be paying for the car, he would still refuse to use it. It would be practical for a person who does not have a car to just go to car rentals and rent a good one to use. Although it is rather expensive, it is still a need since the car would be used. For fathers that still don’t have the money to buy new one, I’m sure a lot of them would go to car rentals and just rent one.
