This article is about “Joke using quotation marks”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Joke using quotation marks”:

Humor is a powerful tool that a truly skillful writer can employ to turn a humdrum piece into a memorable read. Of course, humor doesn’t necessarily mean throwing a random joke in between paragraphs. Used in regular writing, it’s usually more subtle. Here are a few ideas for putting them to work.

As relief for overly-controversial pieces. Heavy subjects can leave readers uncomfortable. Using humor in such situations can make even the headiest materials more palatable, as it provides temporary relief to let them gather their wits.

As a way to show irony. While irony is synonymous with deception and hypocrisy, it can feel less severe when presented in a comical light, especially when done to absurd extremes. Done this way, the irony isn’t only amusing, it also becomes highly prominent.

As a way to spice up a drab subject. Some subjects are just drab with no story to tide them over. Injecting humor is one of the best ways to liven it up, giving it a colorful quality it otherwise won’t enjoy.

As a way to provide emotional highs. Comedy is fun. Reading an essay or a story filled with well-placed humor, in fact, is very entertaining, to the point that you might eventually forget what you read, but still recall all the laughs that you had.

Like all literary devices, humor is best delivered using crisp, clear writing. Believe me, even the funniest punchlines will fail to make a mark if a reader has to struggle on their way to getting there. Make sure you take advantage of writing improvement software tools to help you on that end.

This article is about “Insight on demand movies”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Insight on demand movies”:

People considering satellite TV packages are often arguing over then merits of the different options. Should you go heavy on sports or is it going to be all about the movies and shows? When you consider that you’re getting a lineup of networks that is unmatched in modern cable, you can’t downplay the importance of that. Football and baseball fans will argue that their access is also unprecedented. Everyone can get along in the end. Here is the best of what satellite TV packages are offering.

Original series like Boardwalk Empire. Some people yawned when they heard Martin Scorsese and some other usual suspects were teaming up for a powerhouse HBO original series. Ho hum, they said, how good can it be? It’s safe to say that the early returns are beyond positive. Steve Buscemi has found the role of his career in Nucky Thompson. He’s the mob boss who wants to dance the night away, but his associates and rivals keep sending him back to the drawing board. Can’t poor Nucky ever party without all the interruptions? This show is one of the best things going right now.

Action that the real sports fan is craving: There are sports fans, and then there are the type of fanatics that can’t go without any action from the preseason, regular season and postseason. For this type of fan, satellite packages can bring you all of the action in high def, without a hitch or a blackout. You’ll find yourself the most well informed of all the fans, as you have the insight not only of the primary source (the game) but also the best roundups available from all the shows that come on before and after.

Movies that are coming out way ahead of the rental house schedule: Movies which you miss in the theater used to take forever to make it to the rental houses. Now that movie rental houses are basically extinct, it still takes a long time. The only difference is you have to wait for the mail to arrive nowadays. The mail-in movie houses have their advantages, but satellite providers can get you the films you’re dying to see about a month ahead of their schedule. It’s fairly simple and straightforward. Instead of wondering why everyone else is seeing the film, you are the one watching it on your TV set at home.

An extended supply of On Demand and Pay Per View programming: The hottest movies will be available using the On Demand feature, but really you can get used to using this system for any type of programming. Educational materials, How To videos and TV shows you missed also fall under the On Demand banner. Pay Per View, on the other hand, is your access to events that only come along once in a blue moon. If you can’t get tickets and want to host the party for the WWE Smackdown or some boxing title fight, get used to the Pay Per View controls.

This article is about “Debate graphic rubrics”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Debate graphic rubrics”:

I suggest using diligence and patience to build your OAR. It is the matrix behind project learning and is the rudder to steer student participation, along with your active classroom management skills.

Objectives

This are taken from your school district curriculum standards. It’s a good idea to post them on the board or location students can refer to them during class.

Teaching students responsibility begins with setting them up for success. I refer to the objective at beginning of class and as we go through the lesson. This supports the student in tying together what we are discovering.

Activities

Each lesson will have a minimum of two or three activities. Students have plenty of energy so a variety of work to do in class gives them a chance to use it in a positive way.

Assessments

Every lesson has two or three situations where a teacher can review student work to understand concept comprehension. Many are informal and you can always use formal (quiz, test, etc.) as a traditional class does.

Resources

Besides needing a rubric, other materials can be necessary to complete an activity. For example, here are some typical requirements for more common activities:

- white boards

- erasers, marker

- slides, LCD

- blank paper

- crayons

- calculators

- reading material

- note paper

- scissor

- timer

Here is a lesson designed with an OAR using Project Learning Matrix design in my science class:

Standard

Students will understand the cell types and their properties.

Bell Work

What are two similarities and two differences between prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells? (Discuss bell work answers and give student work) 5-10 minutes

Activity (Paired Work)

Explain the work: student pairs work on white boards to make Venn diagram of prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells. [5 minutes]

Student work (while students work I walk around and review boards which helps me prepare for remaining work in class ) [10 minutes]

Students post boards around room (on shelf, chalk trays) [2 minutes]

Students take notes on papers using “T” chart of 10 similarities and 10 differences (building analytical skills here and I point that out while they are doing this) [5 minutes]

Randomly call on students to say one similarity or difference that has not been stated yet from comparing the boards. [8 minutes]

Summary (Class Discussion) [10 minutes]

Show a slide of pictures: water, rock, fire, plant, fish, and dog using LCD

Two minute discussion in group to answer:

What type of cells makes which and what is evidence?

Then I randomly call on groups for answers and to question evidence. My purpose is to solidify student understand of cell properties and who/what each type of cell.

Students put materials away [3 minutes]

A Project Learning Matrix Lesson is multidimensional

This lesson design uses reading, writing, listening, speaking, collaboration with peers, analyzing, investigating, and making an educated guess.

A must beginning to class is a “getting down to work” which is why I use bell work. This is a sure fire way to turn on student thinking. The bell work question either reviews class work from the end previous, or is something to determine prior knowledge of a concept we haven’t studied but will begin studying that day. My bell work question is placed on a separate white board in the front of the room and remains there the entire class. That board is situated next to the learning objective(s) for that class.

Something at the end of class to tie everything together is a key strategy. The easiest way for me is using a class discussion to summarize what was discussed. I always call on students randomly. This lesson segment is not a teacher lecture. Instead, it’s lead by the teacher asking questions….

- what is one thing we covered today?

- who can tell me what ______ is in relation (compared) to ___________?

- how would you describe ______ as we use it today in our ________ (culture, food, clothes)?

- explain one reason that ________ is occurring or did occur? What is the evidence?

An even better summary activity…. Ann individual student reflection where students have a few minutes to jot down their thoughts from one or two prompts I give them (write on board).

Activity Ideas

There are a host of various activities that students can use as projects that foster collaboration.

Make poster Class debate Write a story Teach a portion of lesson

Sampler stations Science lab Paired sharing White boarding

Build model Read with partner Do radio show Make or complete a puzzle

Design brochure Make and do survey Play learning game Use graphic organizer

Whatever the activity is, be sure it’s interesting and challenging to student skills. Have your have rubric done before the lesson so you can preview it with students. Set students up to win….. keep them informed on how to do well and they will do well. Be sure during an activity that you are walking around and interacting with groups and individual students.

Don’t sit at your desk and do teacher work or view your email. When students see you’re interested they’ll work harder.

Assessment Ideas

There are plenty of ways to use formal or informal assessments in this lesson design. As I walk around observing students and groups during activities, it becomes clear who knows the material (concepts) and who doesn’t. I like to use “tickets out the door” to document where students are and help them drill down a bit. Basically, a “ticket out the door” is me handing the students a small piece of paper (not a full or half sheet) and giving them a verbal prompt or two. Then they write their answer on that paper and turn it in as they leave. I’ve used this as an assignment grade….. but not always. Here are some prompt examples I’ve used…..

- what is the same (or different) about ______ and ______

- tell me three things you learned, two things you want more info about, and one question you have

- what did the ________ become _________? What is your evidence for you answer?

- explain in two sentences or more how __________________

- what is a good question for the quiz on Friday that other students should know?

Conclusion

A matrixed lesson educates the whole child. This means that there are academic skills building possibilities, social skill building possibilities, and students are given an opportunity to manage their own time and success.

The academic skill requirements are easy to guide using the objective. The skill possibility building is endless, they arise from students being able to collaborate to accomplish specific tasks. Arranging students in workable groups is always a challenge for me. Sometimes I have them count off and then all the one’s work together and the two’s work together and so forth. I stay away from people picking their own partners because there is too much comfort zone in that. I like students to have some comfort but I like it more when they are pushing their own envelope.

Students who are absent or just don’t contribute to a group can be challenging to any lesson. When students are absent I put them in a new group and they start over on the work, unless it’s an excused absence. I tell them that when we cover the rubric, with the intent no one is absent.

Students who don’t work, their partners complain about them, I have a two step program. The first step is I talk to the accused and tell him/her what group members are saying. I also tell ‘em, after letting them explain their side of the story, that if complaints continue then they’ll be working at Table 8.

Tale 8 is reserved for all the students who get bounced from other groups for not working. The key is giving the accused one or two chances to get on track and start working, take some responsibility, before I bounce ‘em to table 8.

In summary, matrixed lessons produce amazing results and students have fun while they work hard. Teachers, the brightest red flag is when we do too much lecturing – that kills this type of lesson. Teacher lecture/presentation must be limited to 15-18 minutes each day. The rest of the period must be used in students performing tasks for certain activities defined by a rubric that the class has gone over.

Have fun and when you stick to this lesson structure, student learning will go beyond your expectations.

This article is about “Languagesonline.org.french”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Languagesonline.org.french”:

There are many ways to learn a new language: you can go live in a country where the language is spoken, attend a formal language class, get a private language tutor or use books and written materials. Other ways to learn a foreign language are to listen to CDs or audiocassette tapes, watch TV, movies and video programs, memorize phrase books, use the Internet or employ a combination of all the above.

But not everyone can arrange to live in a foreign country. Native speakers of the language may not be available. Written or recorded commercial materials may not be available in the language you’re interested in (Cochimi, Cibemba or Kukapa, anyone?) True, many major languages like Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Portuguese broadcast TV programs via cable. Even Korean, Catalan, Arabic and Japanese have venues available in cosmopolitan areas worldwide; but the vast majority of the world’s thousands of spoken tongues are simply not at large outside of their local areas. So what’s a prospective polyglot to do?

One answer of course, is the internet. Plug “foreign language courses” into an internet search engine like Google or Yahoo and more than 62 million hits instantly come up. From Afrikaans to Punjabi, and Hebrew to Zulu, thousands of listings lay before you only a mouse click away. How exactly then, can the internet be used to tackle learning a foreign language? Start off effectively by using these six ways:

1. Do an initial evaluation

The first thing you may want to know is where you are in the scheme of learning the language. An initial language skills evaluation is in order; are you a raw beginner? False beginner? Intermediate level? Higher? Let’s take English as a second or foreign language as an example. English proficiency diagnostics tests are free online at:

• General English Test with instant results

http://nll.co.uk/test/english.shtml

• Parlo http://parlo.com/

(diagnostic tests in English, Spanish, and French)

• Upper Intermediate Test

http://www.wordskills.com/level/caeform.html

If you score above 80% in this test, you should take the next one and also show your teacher or tutor a copy of the results.

2. Become familiar with language learning strategies

How do YOU learn? Knowing this can make the daunting task of foreign language learning less like study and more like play. Are you a Visual – Spatial learner who likes pictures, drawings, graphics and extensive use of color? A Musical – Rhythmic type that would benefit from having your lessons and materials set to music, rhythm or rhyme? Perhaps you’re the athletic type who’d derive more success with learning by motion, movement, mime or even dance? Playing the works of Mozart in the background while studying has been shown to enhance learning in a number of areas. To find out more about your manner of learning visit these sites for starters:

• Learning Styles Explanation [http://www2.ncsu.edu/unity/lockers/users/f/felder/public/ILSdir/styles.htm]

• The Success Types Learning Style Indicator [http://www.ttuhsc.edu/SOM/Success/LSTIntro.htm]

3. Practice reading skills

Literacy is one of the 21st century’s most innately valuable compound skills. After all, you’re reading THIS now, aren’t you? Few would wish to be illiterate in their new foreign language so practice of reading skills is paramount. Online newspapers, magazines, newsletters and blogs can provide the needed practice and learning materials. Check out these reading comprehension skills sites:

4. Help in developing listening skills

Considered to be the most difficult of the language skills to develop, listening cannot be taught. Rather, you must practice, practice, practice and then practice some more. Every week, twice a week I passed a street vendor at the same spot, absolutely clueless as to what he was saying. I knew what he was selling – I just peeked over at his wares. But his entreaties in street Spanish fell on my language-clogged ears for months. Then one evening, without warning, it happened. Just two days before, his cries were the same incomprehensible slur they’d been for months. That one evening however, when he launched into his huckster’s spiel I suddenly understood every word. My listening comprehension skills had clicked in. Why then? No one knows. Especially not me, and I’m a post-graduate-degreed Language Education Specialist!

Practice your listening skills with radio programs in your target language for a change at http://www.live365.com which has live global feeds 24 hours a day in multiple languages.

5. Playing games and having fun

Vocabulary is often referred to as the building blocks of language. Knowledge of vocabulary is one aspect that separates the language learning levels. The more vocabulary you know, the more communicative you are. Here are some unique linguistic sites that help build your language as you “play”:

• The http://www.manythings.org/ site offers “interesting things for ESL students” like songs, jokes, quizzes, word games, puzzles, slang and even podcasts to help stimulate English language acquisition.

This article is about “Marching band grand national 2010 results”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Marching band grand national 2010 results”:

Think back to when you were a kid. Remember when your Mom would tell you to do something? Sometimes it was a random request; like you are playing with your Barbie dolls or Legos and she sticks her head in the door and says, “Come on, get your coat on.”

Well, you don’t remember any appointment. Nobody told you there were plans to go someplace. You are right in the middle of a Barbie/Ken date and finally found the perfect outfit for Barbie. You even located two shoes that match. You look up to find your Mom has already left your room and you holler, “Why?”

“BECAUSE I SAID SO.”

Oh, many times, she pulled the “because I said so” card. Grudgingly you drag yourself off the floor, looking longingly down at your dolls and slowly turn towards your door.

“NOW!”

You hear your Mom yell at you to move faster.

You know where I’m going with this, right? How many times have we done the same thing at work? Oh, maybe we don’t say “because I told you” but it’s the impression we give.

So how does that make our associates feel? How many communications have you read or even wrote that spelled out mandatory edicts without an explanation? I know, who has time to bring everyone up to speed.

But how quickly do you achieve 100% compliance without clearly communicating the “whys.”

Let’s turn it around and apply the Golden Rule. How would we like to be treated? How important are the “whys” to us?

Go back to Barbie. What if Mom had said, “Hey, come get your coat on? I can hear the marching band practicing at the high school – let’s go watch them play.”

Or

“Grandma called, she’s not feeling well and she asked us to come for a visit. Go get your coat.”

We’d leave Barbie to fend for herself in a minute, right?

As the former Director of Communications for Cole National, I often had to communicate messages to associates that would require change or additional work. Most frequently my writing went under the signature of the President or Vice President of Stores. Their goal was a communication that achieved results. My responsibility was to ensure the message was read – understood – and acted upon.

To that end, I always included the ‘why’ behind the information. It doesn’t need to be lengthy or complicated, in fact, if it is – it won’t be read.

When communicating with your associates remember these tips:

- If there is an action, task or deadline for the reader, state it early and often

- Explain the why behind the message – it should be as simple as a sentence:

“In response to competitor’s recent advertising we are…”

“Due to changes in our vendor supply capability you will need to…”

“In response to requests from your peers we are changing…”

-Tell them how their compliance will impact the company. When associates realize that the request isn’t busy work but will actually impact the overall company results, they are more likely to comply.

-Thank them in advance

-Reinforce any specific task and/or deadline

-Give them a contact in case they have questions or comments

Create a partnership for success by being informative and providing associates with the “who”, “what”, “where”, “why”, “when”, and “how”. You are letting associates understand the value they provide to the company’s success. That makes everyone a winner.

This article is about “Algebra game to make a face”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “Algebra game to make a face”:

What is great about coming up with a program of math activities for children is that, often, the child learns without actually realizing that she is learning. Consider as an example, the math software for children by Scholastic called Math Missions Grades 3-5: The Amazing Arcade Adventure. The environment of the game is a cartoon neighborhood called Spectacle City, founded by Horton Spectacle. As hard as the city’s honest citizens try to turn the city into the greatest in the world, Randall Underling the villain, wants more than anything to stop them. The problem that these funny citizens face is that no one in the town seems to know any math at all. Players need to step in to help everything happen in the city; and most of the time, the kind of help needed in any situation is mathematical.

Even at first glance, Math Missions excels as a colorful and entertaining environment for a child to compete in, and it features lots of really clever little math activities for children. The more participating players help in the building of the city, the more money they earn. As soon as a child earns enough, she can use this seed money to invest in the city’s arcade and actually come to own it. Becoming an owner isn’t an empty and grandiose exercise at all. Children make business decisions about how it is run, advertise and keep track of profits. Right away, children get drawn into the whole earning activity, and play hard to make enough money to make it happen. They just don’t realize how good they are getting their math, is all.

As soon as a child signs in and plays for the first time, she chooses a level of challenge out of the three available. Most of the time, the game appeals to a fourth grader much better than it would appeal to a toddler. After all this trouble, it would be disappointing if all that happened was that the child was run through a few basics. But that is simply not the case. If anything, Math Missions leans a touch in the direction of the difficult.

The game features a store called MegaBuyts that helps the child work with tasks like understanding graphs. In the sporting goods store, they learn to pick uniforms for the members of a team based on personal preferences and size, and in the grocery store they learn how to eyeball things to correctly pick containers for stuff. Of course, every one of these math activities for children needs them to take the subway or the bus to get to where the activity is, and that requires them to make change, a math activity in itself.

This is an environment that’s full of great surprises around every corner. There are magicians, treasure hunts, cartoon characters, you name it. Not only do kids get to manage their own store, they also get to save the town in the process. Everything feels fresh and new in the game, and there is enough entertainment to balance out the education. As a game with math activities for children, this one really wins all around.

This article is about “How to make homemade flute or trumpet”, you can find here a huge variety of articles about “How to make homemade flute or trumpet”:

Avid wine drinkers know that you cannot just poor a fine wine into any old glass. Surface area of the wine out of the bottle, the temperature of your hand and even the shape of glass are all factors that affect how a wine will taste and feel in the drinker’s mouth. This article will give the reader a brief overview of why it is important to have a proper champagne flute to drink fine champagne from as opposed to other wine glasses or glass wear.

What is a champagne flute?

A flute is a type of stemware used for drinking wine or other sparkling drinks. The stem is the long thin piece of glass that separates the base of the glass from the bowl that holds the liquid. The shape of this glass resembles a typical wine glass or it may have a trumpet shape or is otherwise very narrow. The stem on the glass has a very specific purpose of allowing the drinker to hold the glass without touching the bowl. This is done to avoid heating the wine up with the warmth of hand. The design of the bowl also has a very specific job. When wine is poured into a glass, it begins to lose carbonation. The more surface area that is exposed, the faster the wine loses its carbonation and the flatter tasting it becomes. This is the reason that a flute bowl is so narrow, to maintain carbonation. Champagne flutes accomplish this much better than a champagne coupe or saucer, which exposes the wine to a much greater amount of surface area.

A champagne flute also helps facilitate the natural phenomenon of nucleation. This process in a flute helps form the bubbles that you see. Too much of it will cause carbonation to go away quickly. A flute provides a smoother surface area inside the glass so that there can be increased bubble texture in the drinker’s mouth.

Flutes come in a variety of styles and designs however, they all follow the same thin and narrow overall construction for the purposes described above. Some come etched or printed with ornate designs and can be purchased as single, double or in multiple glass sets. A single flute can retail anywhere from a few dollars for a plastic version to around 100 dollars for a crystal version. Prices can go up from there if purchasing a glass with gold or silver plating around the rim or other ornate features.

Therefore, the next time someone tells you that wine in any glass will taste the same; you can tell them how wrong they are. Champagne flutes help necessitate the environment in which wine tastes and feels the best. Other glasses are suitable however, they can detract from a fine wine by simply the way they are constructed. More economical champagne coinsures can find plastic champagne flutes for their needs or if you are a big spender there are a variety of crystal champagne flutes that can have ornate designs or gold and silver plated accents to impress your dinner crowd.
